pilates on the reformer
What is Pilates Reformer? Have you ever heard of machine Pilates? No? Most people haven’t and those that have seen it, still aren't too sure what it does. The Reformer will ‘reform’ your body. When celebrity's say they 'do Pilates' they are usually talking about the Reformer.
In basic terms, the Reformer is a machine, like a sliding bed or carriage attached to springs that provide a resistance. This adjustable resistance helps you to ‘reform’ muscular imbalances, tone, strengthen and improve your posture and your mobility. For a fantastic all over body workout, including arms and legs, the Reformer is a step up from Pilates matwork classes. The sessions can be quite slow and stretchy (like my example video here) or we can make it into a more dynamic, faster paced class - all depending on your goals and ability. The springs are different resistances - it doesn't necessarily mean that heavier resistance makes it into a stronger workout. Sometimes using a really light resistance can be more challenging, as you yourself then have to create the stability and strength in your body. But - equally so adding resistance can increase the challenge! No springs? Maybe too much to control your movement and control the moving carriage! The reformer is a great tool to help improve your mobility as it can be quite supportive (you get to lie down whilst doing squats!) whilst strengthening the muscles. It therefore makes for an effective, non impact stretching and toning programme that is safe for the joints and favoured by Physiotherapists and Osteopaths. Reformer is particularly useful for: Helping those with specific injuries
Reformer is available on a specialist tailored 1:1 programme for individuals for a 1 hour session. A taster 1/2hr session is also available. |
